How the Fraxel laser can reveal smooth, vibrant, and youthful-looking skin just below the surface.

Has severe acne left you self-conscious?

Desperate to eradicate those textured ice pick, boxcar, and rolling scars?

Has melasma and photosensitivity left your skin patchy and discoloured?

Can you cope with the grey weather of winter, but not the dullness and grey hues of your skin?

Then the Fraxel laser may be the answer.

More effective than any topical treatment, the Fraxel laser can penetrate deep into the skin and break up scar tissue whilst eliminating other imperfections such as hyperpigmentation and dryness. While a numbing cream alleviates any discomfort, the heat from the laser replaces damaged cells and stimulates regrowth, leaving you with glowing, healthy skin. Fabulous.

Read on for the full Fraxel story.

How does it work?

The Fraxel laser – or fractional skin resurfacing treatment – works by concentrating thermal ‘columns’ into the skin, stimulating collagen production and promoting the growth of new skin cells to replace the old, damaged ones. The non-invasive, microscopic laser penetrates below the surface of the skin, encouraging elastin growth, smoothing wrinkles and scars, fading hyperpigmentation, and essentially resurfacing the skin.

Breakdown of the process

Ideally, avoid booking a treatment when you are experiencing an acne breakout or dermal infection. If you use oral retinoids to cope with adult acne issues or incorporate retinoids such as retinol or Vitamin A in your skincare plan, then you should cease this regimen about a week before your scheduled appointment.

Come the day of your treatment, our specialist will apply a topical numbing cream which takes around 45 minutes to activate before beginning the Fraxel laser procedure which lasts less than half an hour. You should experience nothing more than a prickling sensation, but comfort levels and thresholds are subjective so we encourage you to speak up if you feel any pain or discomfort.

Downtime and duration

You will experience redness for one to three days after the procedure, followed by flaking of the old skin cells around day three or four. We encourage you to use gentle skincare products only and allow your skin to heal, revealing a healthy, glowing visage beneath!

The amount of required sessions will naturally depend on what we are focussing on and the desired results, but you will notice significant change after just one visit. During your initial consultation with Dr. Farid Kazem and our in-house dermatologists, you will be able to discuss and determine the best course of action, but two to six sessions are standard for optimum results.

Alongside good skincare – have you seen our own NEFERA range? – and attention to diet and hydration, the results of the Fraxel laser can last for one to two years. The from-the-inside-out approach, penetrating below the surface is what makes this treatment so popular. Creams and topical skincare options are simply not as effective as lasers in getting below the superficial dermal layers and eradicating deep scarring or strong photo damage for good.

“I would do it again in a heartbeat,” says KAZEM AESTHETICA client Marieke. “The results are above expectations and the treatment went well. I’m super happy with it!”
