Protect your assets

Just as you would not buy a house without insurance or acquire a company without reviewing that profit and loss report, you wouldn’t head into the summer without protecting your biggest asset – you.

As the temperature heats up, many of us are booking our summer vacations whether for stolen weekends just out of the city or for destinations with secret coves and blue-green waters. We’re looking forward to long lazy days, simply enjoying the cerulean skies, soaking up the Vitamin D, and turning our faces to the sun. Amidst all that enjoyment though please, please, please – PLEASE – take care of your skin.

The rules are simple. The methods to protect your skin are oft told. But still, at KAZEM AESTHETICA, we too often see the dangers and disappointments of sun damage. If you do get caught out this summer, then don’t panic, of course, we are here to help you and rejuvenate your skin. But we’d much rather assist with prevention when and where possible. Read on for Dr. Kazem and the team’s tips for being sun smart this summer.

1. SPF. Obviously

The most important item to pack will be your broad-spectrum sunscreen. This is a lotion that protects against both ultraviolet A radiation (UVA) which is typically responsible for premature ageing; and ultraviolet B radiation (UBV), the stronger and cruellest of the two that causes sunburn and skin cancers. Seek a sunscreen which is minimum 30SPF and contains titanium dioxide and zinc oxide – and remember to reapply every two hours.

2. Accessories of course

A wide-brimmed hat is a chic, but most importantly effective, accessory to protect your face during the heat of the day. Don’t be bashful, take up the space so it can leave your nose, ears and neck in the shade. A stunning sunhat of course, protects your scalp which is too often forgotten about when applying sunscreen. Also select suitable sunglasses with lenses which absorb UV.

3. Shady business

The sun’s rays are at their most glaringly strong between 10am and 4pm so during this time, keep your exposure to a minimum. Instead opt for an early morning swim, a spot of sight-seeing or shopping, and an extended, idle lunch beneath a cooling arbour of vine leaves.

4. The power of Vitamin C

The sun generates free radicals and so the powerful antioxidants found in Vitamin C are ideal in preventing and countering the effect of the sun on the skin. It helps to avert hyperpigmentation, unifies skin tone and lightens dark spots – but it is photosensitive so the molecule actually breaks down on contact with the sun, losing its effectiveness. Therefore, incorporate it into your morning skincare routine and apply 30 minutes before leaving the villa.

5. Prevention is better than cure, BUT…

At KAZEM AESTHETICA, we offer a range of treatments and bespoke plans to return your skin to its replenished best. As always, our work will begin with a one-on-one consultation with Dr. Kazem and an assessment using our Visia Skin Scan to devise the best course of action. The Visia Skin Scan helps us to analyse the deeper layers of the skin, looking at subcutaneous pigmentation spots and wrinkles that will only become visible down the line. It is an invaluable tool, which, paired with Dr. Kazem and our team’s expertise, can outline a course of procedures for exceptional results. To neutralise any sun damage, our offerings include laser treatments such as Fraxel or Clear + Brilliant (LINK// https://kazem.com/treatments/rejuvenate-skin-fraxel-laser-clear-brilliant/) which stimulate the growth of new and healthy skin cells and accelerate the build-up of collagen. These are excellent at improving your skin tone, texture, and radiance of sun-damaged or even scarred skin. We may also suggest our HydraFacials and boosters which can hydrate, brighten, repair, firm ,and calm the skin after a summer of harsh sun rays.
